Dr. Mani Karthik

Senior Scientist (Contract) | Centre for Solar Energy Materials

Dr. Mani Karthik is currently working as a Senior Scientist in Centre for Solar Energy Materials, International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, Hyderabad, India. He has also worked at different organizations located in South Korea, Taiwan, Italy and Spain. He has received several research fellowships from University of Torino (Italy), National Science Council (NSC)-NCTU (Taiwan), KAIST (South Korea), UGC (India), DAE-BRNS (India). Dr. Mani Karthik was chosen by the Indian Embassy in South Korea as a leading Indian scientist to engage in a scientific exchange with the Former President of India, the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, during his visit to Seoul. He has been honored as Follow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and also received the prestigious award of Chartered Chemist (CChem) by The Royal Society of Chemistry, London, United Kingdom for his significant contributions and commitment to excellence in the field of Chemical Sciences. He has received an award “Best Scientist in Supercapacitor”, 2019 Awarded by RULA Award, Powered by World Research Council. His research area of specialization include material science, nanotechnology, porous carbon materials, catalysis, photocatalysis, fine-chemical synthesis, air quality management and pollution control, solar energy harvesting, thermal energy conversion & storage, batteries and supercapacitors. His papers are frequently cited and also appeared in the cover page of the journals. He has also served as Guest Editor/Editorial Board Member for Journal of Materials Focus, Journal of Molecules, Nanomaterials and Application, Journal of Materials Science, Journal of Frontiers in Energy Research, Journal of Modern Polymer Chemistry and Materials, and frequent reviewer for more than 30 international journals. He has delivered several invited talks and presented his research papers in several national and international conferences. Recently, Dr. Mani Karthik was recognized as one of the world's top 2% of most-cited scientists in the ranking list published by Stanford University and Elsevier, 2025.

 Solar Energy Materials - Solar Energy Conversion and Storage 
Main Tasks: To develop thermal energy storage materials for low, medium and high temperatures solar thermal energy storage applications (Sensible & Latent heat thermal energy storage and cold thermal energy storage materials) 

 Nano Fluids for Solar Thermal Energy Storage Applications
Main Tasks: To develop nanofluids with high thermal conductivity, high heat capacity, good dispersion of nanoparticles in base fluids, and good stability for solar thermal applications

 Solar Hydrogen Production
Main Tasks: To develop cost-effective and efficient thermal energy storage system integrated with parabolic trough collector (PTC) and solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) system for continuous green hydrogen generation 

 Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS)
Main Tasks: To develop microencapsulated phase change material composite for battery thermal management and advanced electronic cooling system 

 Materials for Energy Storage: Supercapacitors and Batteries
Main Tasks: To develop efficient electrode materials for high performance Supercapacitors and Batteries. Design and fabrication of nanostructured materials for Supercapacitors Device and Electric Vehicles (EV’s) Applications - Demonstration of Supercapacitor Powered Electric-Bike (E-Bike) and various proto-type devices
