The Centre for Laser Processing of Materials (CLPM) works towards the development and promotion of laser-based manufacturing solutions for the Indian industry through:

  1. Application-oriented R&D towards demonstrating the feasibility of laser processing route for specific industrial applications
  2. Research towards better scientific understanding of various processes; and
  3. Job works of specialized nature 

    In the areas of 
    1. Laser surface engineering (hardening, cladding, alloying, texturing)
    2. Laser welding and brazing (including laser-arc hybrid)
    3. Micro processing (surface texturing, drilling, scribing)
    4. Laser-based repair and refurbishment of components
    5. Laser and laser-assisted machining
    6. Metal Additive Manufacturing – SLM and EBM
