Overview

Phase Change Materials (PCMs) offer a transformative approach to thermal management in energy storage by strategically controlling temperature profiles through latent heat absorption and release. We introduce a cost-effective, scalable spinel nanoparticle (Cu(Mn0.748Ni0.252)2O4) with exceptional thermal resilience and excellent dispersibility, which was used to create a novel Spinel Oxide-PCM nanocomposite. This nanocomposite demonstrates a 45 % increase in specific heat capacity, promising a new generation of compact, cost-effective, and high-performance thermal energy storage systems.

Status

  • 1 kWh thermal energy storage (TES) prototype system was successfully integrated with ARCI's existing PTC test rig.
  • 1 kWh TES tank, including its connecting pipe system, was insulated and charged up to 300 °C using heat transfer fluid (HTF), and its charging performance was subsequently examined.
