Overview

The commercialisation of PEMFC system for various applications and its cost reduction depends majorly on its manufacturing capability. However, the most of the current R&D focuses on materials development for cost reduction and performance improvement and not much attention is being paid for mass production and scale of economics. By increasing the focus on improving mass manufacturability of the fuel cell and components, including simplification and standardization, leads to implementation of PEMFC system for practical applications in India. Areas of fuel cell manufacture that are ripe for simplification and mass manufacture scale up include bipolar plates and electrodes, which could be standardized and membrane electrode assembly can be mass produced. ARCI -CFCT is in the process of setting up an automated PEM fuel cell component/stack assembly line and aimed to produce PEM fuel cell of 100kW/year capacity.

Key Features

  • Development of automated pilot line with Indian collaborator to realise indigeneious development.
  • Development of PEMFC stacks with more indigeneious components.
  • Establishment of this facility is first of its kind in India.
  • Provide simplification for mass manufacture of components/stack

Potential Applications

  • Provide way for easy adoptability of manufacturing components/PEMFC stack for technology commercialisation.
