Details

Shot peening is a controlled mechanical surface treatment technique in which spherical media are accelerated toward the substrate to induce plastic deformation. The repeated impact of the shots generates beneficial compressive residual stresses in the near-surface layer, which significantly enhances fatigue life and resistance to crack initiation and propagation. Owing to its ability to improve mechanical reliability under cyclic loading, shot peening is extensively employed in high-performance components such as gears, springs, aerospace structures, and turbine blades.
