Centre Coordinator

Dr. B. V. Sarada is a senior scientist and Head (CAMB) at ARCI), Hyderabad. She has obtained her Ph. D. from The University of Tokyo, where she has worked on Conducting Diamond thin-films and microelectrodes for biosensor and water treatment applications. She has received the prestigious JSPS Fellowship both during her Ph. D. and post-doctoral programme. She has also worked at The University of Tokyo as a JST Fellow under a pre-venture project. Back in India, she was a DST Woman Scientist. She has joined ARCI as Scientist ‘D’. She is also the convener for Biomedical Materials Research Group at ARCI.
Dr. Sarada’s research interests include synthesis of Nanostructured Materials & Nanocomposites for energy conversion and energy storage applications including batteries and supercapacitors, Nanostructured materials and alloys for permanent and biodegradable biomedical implant applications, conducting boron-doped diamond Thin-films and microelectrodes for electrochemical sensor applications etc. Dr. Sarada’s current research is focussed on electrode and electrolyte materials for Na ion and Li-S batteries and pouch and cylindrical cells. She has been working on the electrocatalyst modified carbon sulfur cathode materials to increase the cycle stability in Li-s batteries and lignin based hard carbon anode for Na ion batteries. She is also working on the surface modification and biocompatible coatings for permanent and biodegradable medical implants. She has more than 80 publications, 7 book chapters, 18 patents and 3 technology transfers to her credit.
She is an editorial board member of ‘Scientific Reports’, a publication under Nature Publishing Group. She is a member of ‘The Electrochemical Society of India’ and ‘MRSI, India’, Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) and Battery Research Society of India (BRS). She has been elected as “Fellow of Telangana Academy of Sciences” for the year 2020. In addition, she also gives inspirational lectures to school and college students at villages and towns to inspire them towards research.
